Market in the Park

Features local gardeners, cooks and artisans. Find homegrown, homemade and handcrafted farmer’s market items and much more during the market’s regular hours Saturdays from 8-11 a.m. Special events are sponsored year-round.

In 2014, inspired by UAM Ag student Jack Pace, a group of local farmers and gardeners met with the Arkansas Department of Agriculture to begin the process of re-organizing a Drew County farmer’s Market. The group began recruiting board members from the community and planning an opeing day. Monticello/Drew County Chamber of Commerce Director, Glenda Nichols, provided advice as well as a meeting place for the group. County Judge Robert Akin offered the current site on South Main Street, just south of the town square in Monticello’s downtown historic district. A logo was chosen with colors that symbolize Drew Central and Monticello Schools and a motto that reflects the history of farminig and agriculture in Drew County was developed.

Guidelines based upon Arkansas State Health Department Cottage Home Rules were developed that limited the market’s products to homegrown, homemade, and/or handcrafted. Market in The Park Farmers Market and More seeks to provide quality produce and products with emphasis on customer safety. Vendors are constantly being recruited. Contact the Chamber of Commerce office at (870) 367-6741 or email monticellochamber@sbcglobal.net to receive your vendor application form. There is no vendor fee.

Now in our sixth year, vendor participation has increased with a variety of vegetables and fruit as well as homemade goodies and unique handcrafted items. Market in the Park actively encourages home gardeners who like to share their bounty as we build a sense of community in Monticello/Drew County.
